Location: Northern Costa Blanca, Spain.
Population: 29,279 (2006)
Overview: Sitting behind a wide bay and sheltered by 2 rocky headlands this former Roman port has become a desirable location for holiday homes and re-location for a number of north European nationalities, it is also a popular holiday destination with a huge choice of rental accommodation available, a perfect location for a villa style holiday.
Javea History: Originally populated in pre-historic times Javea became an important port for the Romans in the 2nd century BC, making it possibly the oldest Roman settlement along this coast, in the 6th century AD the monastery of San Martin was founded by the Visigoths, giving its name to the nearby Cabo San Martin. The Moors arrived in 714 during the Arab conquest of Spain and remained until their final expulsion in 1609.
After the Christian re-conquest Javea was walled and fortified to protect the town from constant attacks by pirates, remnants of these ancient fortifications still remain today. The present day harbour dates from the 15th century and is one of the most popular areas of the town, retaining much of its old Spanish charm.

Javea is situated on the Costa Blanca between Calpe and Denia.

Javea is situated on the CV-734 and CV-736 and can be accessed from the AP-7 (E-15) motorway, it is around 90 kilometres from Alicante airport.

Javea Beaches: Javea has some fine beaches and these include: Playa de Arenal, La Granadella beach a 'Blue Flag' beach home of the Club Nautico de Javea, La Sardinera beach located on the northern side of Cabo San Martin and Cala Blanca beach.
Places to Visit in and Around Javea: There are a numberous interesting places to visit in and around Javea and these include the town's Old Quarter where you will find remains of the original fortifications, the Church of San Bartolome dating from the late 14th century, the old port dating from the 15th century and the Montgo Natural Park.
