Javea is situated behind a wide bay sheltered on both sides by rocky outcrops, which shelter it from cold northern winds during the winter time, its coastal location means that in the hot summer months Javea experiences cooling summer breezes which make for a more pleasant climate. Javea's old port dates from the 15th century and still operates as a working fishing harbour today.
